Fuelish frogs

Are we looking at a bio fools gold rush? Fuels gold!

An eco disaster waiting to happen

Is anyone awake out there, has anyone done any hard sums? Perhaps they have! Cynical? Oil prices up, and food prices going up as mouths and fuel tanks compete for crops. The question is how much land do we need to feed people?
How much land is spare? allowing for biodiversity requirments of maintaining natural areas of our planet.
How much bio fuel can be generated from the spare land?
Is it really economic to do it?
Why didn't we do it sooner, making ethanol is not exactly high tech, is it?
How come the enviromental movement which has been shouting for decades, was ignored for decades?

Cars

There is an unfounded fear that if you had efficient public transport no one would buy cars! They would, why? Well going to work on an efficient public transport system is great, most of the time. However taking your family on visits to grandma, or holidays, cars definately have the edge. They are also a status symbol. It is not the amount of carbon a vehicle emits, but the amount the vehicle is used. A fair tax on fuel is simple and easy, along with proper investment in getting people to their places of work. Are we looking at bio fuels or bio fools? Is this a rush to green technology or a bio fuel gold rush?

Opps!

This could all back fire, when people can't afford fuel or cars, because food is so expensive. Then we have economic collapse.

The Alternative

Better insulation, hybrid cars and increased wind, wave, water and solar energy use. Solar water heating does work even in the UK.
